Volunteers play an important role in supporting our students, classrooms, and school events.
The
Empire Union School District (EUSD)
has
three levels of volunteers
, depending on the type and frequency of volunteer service.
🟢 Level I Volunteer
Who qualifies?
Classroom observers
Volunteers with 1 hour or less of direct student contact per month
Volunteers assisting with classroom presentations, fundraisers, or special events up to four (4) times per year
Volunteers are always supervised by an EUSD employee.
Requirements
✅ Sign in at the school office each visit.
🔵 Level II Volunteer
Who qualifies?
Classroom volunteers
Small group helpers
Weekly classroom assistants
Field trip chaperones
Volunteers are supervised by an EUSD employee.
Requirements
✅ Complete a Volunteer Application
✅ Provide a valid government-issued photo ID
✅ Submit proof of negative TB screening/clearance
✅ Background check through the Megan's Law website
✅ Sign in at the school office each visit
⏰ Important Reminder
After submitting your volunteer application, your photo ID and TB clearance must be submitted within two (2) weeks.
Applications that are missing the required documents after two weeks will be deleted, and you will need to complete a
new volunteer application.
🟣 Level III Volunteer
(Please allow 10–14 days for processing.)
Who qualifies?
Volunteers who will have unsupervised direct contact with students
Requirements
✅ Complete a Volunteer Application
✅ Provide a valid government-issued photo ID
✅ Submit proof of negative TB screening/clearance
✅ Obtain a Fingerprint Request Form from the school office
✅ Complete DOJ and FBI fingerprint background checks (fees apply)
✅ Complete the required online Mandated Reporter Training
✅ Follow school check-in procedures each visit
📌 Additional Information
School administrators determine the appropriate volunteer level based on the volunteer assignment.
Empire Union School District employees who volunteer do not need to complete the volunteer application process. Employment will be verified through Human Resources.
Empire Union School District students volunteering (such as ROP students) do not need to complete the volunteer application process.
University students must follow the volunteer procedures established through their college or university.
